Brass Belt Buckle worn by European members of the South African Police from 1926 to 1931

European members of the SA Police wore Brass Insignia until 1977 when all races wore insignia in a "gilt" finish. This belt buckle was worn after the change over from Dutch to Afrikaans as the second official language in 1925, It was worn until 1931 when the Afrikaans spelling of the word "Polisie" was deemed to be correct and taken into general use.
