Mick Giannasi Chief Constable Gwent Police
Mick Giannasi joined Heddlu Gwent Police in April 2005. In addition to his general role as the Deputy to the Chief Constable, he has specific responsibility for territorial policing, criminal justice, corporate services, call handling and corporate communications. Prior to moving to Gwent, he was an Assistant Chief Constable in Merseyside where he had strategic responsibility for serious and organised crime, intelligence and specialist operations. During his two and a half years in Merseyside he developed a significant amount of experience in dealing with gang related violence and gun crime.

Mick Giannasi originates from Stoke-on-Trent and prior to joining Merseyside Police, served with Staffordshire Police for 23 years in a variety of operational roles. The main focus of his career has been in area based policing with extended involvement in criminal investigation, public order, operational and contingency planning and professional standards. He was formerly staff officer to the Chief Constable and has been closely involved in the development of environmental protest policing methods at a national level.

He is currently involved in the work on a number of ACPO committees including the National Fingerprint Board and the Roads Policing Operations Forum.

Mr. Giannasi is married with a 20 year old son who is studying at Loughborough University. His wife, Sandra, is also a police employee working within one of the area communications units in Staffordshire.

Mr. Giannasi has a B.A. Honours degree in Business Studies and a Diploma in Applied Criminology gained from the University of Cambridge.
