Tony Lake joined Lincolnshire as Chief Constable in September 2003 

Tony Lake joined the Metropolitan Police in 1972 and spent much of his early service working in Central London.  Most of his career has been engaged in operational roles and he was posted to both Tottenham and Acton Police Stations as an Inspector, policing inner city deprived areas.  He also worked at New Scotland Yard on two occasions and was involved in planning major public order policing operations in the early 1980’s.

In 1985 he won a Bramshill Scholarship and went to Corpus Christi College, Cambridge where he read History obtaining BA (Hons). 

In 1992 he transferred to West Yorkshire Police where he worked as Divisional Commander in South Bradford, introducing community policing to an area of considerable diversity.  He was also heavily involved in supporting “Bradford City Challenge” which had significant successes in tackling rising crime and was regarded as a beacon example of crime reduction and partnership working.  

In 1994 Tony Lake attended the Strategic Command Course at Bramshill and in October 1994 became Assistant Chief Constable (Operations) in Sussex.  Between 1996 and 2000 he held numerous portfolios in Sussex and was involved in planning the police response to the live animal export protest on the South Coast and other environmental protests throughout the force area.

In 1998 he was invited to South Africa by the United Nations Development Programme and the South African Government to offer advice on combating car crime and introducing community policing.

In April 2000 he took up the post of Deputy Chief Constable, British Transport Police and continued to contribute to the work of the ACPO Crime Prevention Sub-Committee.  He was Chairman of the ACPO Property Tracking Group and represented ACPO (UK) in work which is developing a European Standard in vehicle tracking.
