Assistant Chief Constable - Mrs Sue Harrison
Mrs Sue Harrison has today, Monday, May 18 been promoted to Assistant Chief Constable after temporarily performing the role since August 2008.

On her promotion, Mrs Harrison who joined Essex Police in March 1983 said: “I am delighted and proud to have been appointed as Assistant Chief Constable for Essex Police, which I believe to be the best force in the country."

"I will endeavour to ensure that more offenders are brought to justice and that Essex remains a safe and pleasant place in which to live, work and visit. I am also looking forward to the challenges ahead such as Operation APEX and the 2012 Olympics," she added.

Mrs Harrison has lived and worked in Essex all of her life. She started her police career in the Basildon Division where she soon moved in to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). She spent a considerable period of her service in various roles within CID. 

Other key roles within Essex Police were at Southend as the football match commander, various operational command roles including Southend Air shows and V concerts at Hylands Park, Chelmsford and post incident manager roles. She was also an accredited firearms officer for over ten years, and is now a Gold Commander for firearms operations. 

Mrs Harrison was T/divisional commander covering the Maldon and Chelmsford District Authority areas, head of the Professional Standards Department, divisional commander of Braintree, programme manager for the Contact Management Programme and then divisional commander of the Communications Division, based at Police Headquarters. 

Mrs Harrison also worked on developing collaboration opportunities between Kent Police and Essex Police and in August 2008 was appointed as the Temporary Assistant Chief Constable.

Mrs Harrison, was born and brought up in Essex, where she still resides. She is married with two sons, aged 8 and 10 and when time permits, she enjoys all sports, especially running.

Chairman of Essex Police Authority Robert Chambers said: “We are very pleased to announce Mrs Harrison as the new Assistant Chief Constable. Essex Police Authority interviewed a very high calibre of candidates for this position. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mrs Harrison on this promotion.”
