Richard Crompton - Appointed Chief Constable Lincolnshire Police 6 June 2008
Richard Crompton joined the Metropolitan Police in 1976 and three years later, left to pursue full time education. He completed a degree in Politics and Economics and rejoined the police in Devon and Cornwall where he had various uniform postings mainly in the Plymouth, Torbay and Exeter areas. As an Inspector in Torbay and Chief Inspector in Plymouth he developed expertise in partnership working and problem solving policing. 

On promotion to Superintendent he was in charge of force-wide community affairs. During this period he studied part-time at Manchester University and achieved an MA in Organisational Studies.

In 2000 he attended the Strategic Command Course at the National Police College at Bramshill.  During this period he also attended Cambridge University where he obtained a diploma in Applied Criminology.   In April 2001 he took up the post of Assistant Chief Constable with Cumbria Constabulary and was in charge of Force Operations for 3½ years. 

He has national responsibilities within ACPO and is the lead on Vulnerable Adults and Vulnerable and Intimidated Witnesses.

Mr Crompton joined Lincolnshire Police as Deputy Chief Constable on 2 August 2004 where he has held responsibility for Strategic Development, Professional Standards, Legal Services and ICT. 

During 2005 he led a Review Team within the East Midlands region, which has examined proposals for Force restructuring.

In July 2006 he led work across the East Midlands Region designed to increase collaboration across the five forces in order to provide better protective services and increase overall productivity.
